Flipgrid

Flipgrid was one of those buzz words this year at ISTE17. I have to admit that I glanced at it but didn't quite see what the hoopla was. Until I had a chance to really take a look at some of the Flipgrids that had been created by students, now I wish I had paid more attention. I signed up for the free version and was prompted to create my first grid.

Flipgrid allows you to post videos and organize them by topic. Students can then add videos of themselves as responses. They can comment on each other's videos and group the videos by topics. Grids can be set to be private and only accessible with a password. There are Flipgrids that have been created by various specialists on topics such as Raptors by Mike Billington of the University of Minnesota Raptor Center.

I decided this would be a great place to share the videos I plan to take of my upcoming trip to the Alaskan bush. My goal is to have my students pose questions and respond with their own videos. This will be a great resource for several different topics I plan to look into later on in the school year. There are Flipgrid challenges that students and teachers can participate in. Using video would allow some of my students who are more hesitant to participate in class without getting in front of the class.

Tips for Back to School

Time is disappearing...literally I can feel the sands quickly sliding away with the summer sun. When school starts I never have enough time to get things done. There are classrooms to organize, decorate, clean, and lessons to create. By the time evening comes around I am exhausted and have no interest in thinking about working out. However, this tip could help me get my act together at the beginning of the year. I am currently trying to work on increasing my fitness goals and trying to prepare for a 5K. Google calendar can help me stay on track and use my time wisely. They have a great feature that will allow you to track your fitness goals on your calendar. Check out these easy directions !
